Aflac U.S. President Virgil Miller, Clemson University Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney, Kathleen Swinney, the Tiger and members of the Aflac Nation in Greenville, South Carolina, recently surprised 17 children with their very own My Special Aflac Duck® at Prisma Health Children's Hospital-Upstate ahead of the Aflac Kickoff Game. The innovative robotic companion was created to help children facing cancer or sickle cell disease express their feelings, prepare for medical procedures and cope with their diagnosis and treatment. Since the program’s inception, Aflac has provided more than 30,000 ducks free of charge to healthcare providers, support organizations and diagnosed children 3 years or older, and has given more than $182 million to research and treatment of childhood cancer and blood disorders.

Each year, the Agents of Care Award recognizes outstanding members of the Aflac Nation who not only excel in their daily work, but also make a significant impact in their greater communities. Today, we are excited to spotlight Janice Mitchell-Smith.Janice’s contributions have earned accolades such as the Volunteer of the Year Award and a Citation from her local senator for her selfless service to the Waterbury chamber and local businesses, both as a board member and through serving as an ambassador.She also raises funds annually for the Greater Water Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. Beyond her chamber and food bank roles, Janice cares for the elderly, providing essential support with cooking, cleaning and running errands for those in need.

Celebrating National Volunteer Month, Aflac proudly honors Pamela Zamora as an Agent of Care. This accolade recognizes outstanding individuals who not only excel professionally, but also make significant contributions to society.Pamela was inspired to address food insecurity in her community after witnessing untouched fruit on city trees. This led to the creation of the Reno Gleaning Project.The Reno Gleaning Project mobilizes volunteers and corporate teams to harvest surplus fruit from trees, provides valuable tips on tree care and distributes the fruit to those in need through partnerships with food banks and non-profits.Under Pamela's guidance, the project has distributed thousands of pounds of fresh, locally sourced fruit, improving access to nutritious food and combating hunger. In 2020 alone, the project donated 14,000 pounds of high-quality fruit.
