„sh*t. This is even worse than I was expecting.“

Yes, that’s an actual quote from “Fracture me” and damn me if this wasn’t an adequate summary for the entire novella! *lol*

Give Adam a chance.
I thought.Maybe he isn’t all that bad.
I was convinced.Probably I misunderstood him the same way everyone misunderstood Warner at first.
I kind of hoped.

… And then I read “Fracture me”.

I was wrong!!!

Adam is still a stupid moron and if anything the book just confirmed my initial suspicion. That boy is actually as arrogant and dumb as I always thought him to be. He doesn’t believe in the rebels of Omega Point, he doesn’t believe in their cause, he doesn’t believe in Juliette! Hell! He even thinks she’s a retarded girl that doesn’t know what’s happening!

How can anyone be so blind and self-righteous?

Well anyway the only thing I liked about him was the fact that he truly seemed to care about James. But yes, that’s about it.

We hear the bombs explode far off in the distance, and that’s when I feel it: the bones inside of me fracture, little earthquakes breaking me apart.”

Oh yeah and did I mention that once James was safe Adam didn’t even want to go looking for Juliette? I mean yes, he’s worried about his little brother, but damn he actually considered leaving her in the hands of the enemy??!!

Logical conclusion: I HATE ADAM with a

fierce passion!!!

Words of wisdom:
If you’re already mad at him, don’t read the book.
You’ll only learn to hate him even more! *lol* ;-)

I figure since I already have this "preview," I might as well write a review for Addie Kent's novella.

AND LET ME TELL YOU, ADDIE SURPRISED ME SO SO MUCH. MY NOT-SO-POSITIVE OPINIONS ABOUT HIM HAVE, dare I say it, CHANGED.

When I thought I couldn't dislike him more than I did, after reading Fracture Me, Addie Kent proved me wrong. End of review.

Edit
P.S.: Just because Adam didn't turn out to be your perfect little f*cking angel with a perfect little f*cking personality does not mean he was falsely portrayed. Shatter Me was written in FIRST PERSON LIMITED POINT OF VIEW, which means how Juliette sees Adam does NOT reflect the person that Adam IS. And don't give me the crap about how you clearly know Adam more than Tahereh Mafi does. For crap's sake, these are HER characters for crying out loud. FRACTURE ME is how Tahereh Mafi views Adam, so suck it up and move ON.
Original
Chant with me guys. ANOTHER WARNER NOVELLA, WARNER NOVELLA, WARNER NOVELLA. SCREW ADAM (Adam who?)

Update:
So according to Harper Collin, this novella is titled Fracture Me (HA! We beat you to it Tahereh!) I don't know. Compared to Warner's title Destroy Me, which reflects just how strong W feels toward J, Fracture Me seems...weak.

Let this be about Kenji. Please. (Since I don't think it will be about my favorite sexy blond man, Warner)

To Adam fans
Fracture Me (Shatter Me, #2.5) (4)

For some reason I thought Fracture Me would sway me (a little) to Team Adam but no such luck. Every time Kenji and Adam talked about Warner in front of Juliette she seemed generally interested in the conversation while she was practically comatose the rest of the time.

King Warner is slaying even when he's not there!

i’m officially starting an adam kent hate club. my dislike for him is now 110% justified bc that man is the WORST — the way he called juliette “the weak link” BOYYY she will end ur f*cking life. this novella was so pointless it was just adam being an asshole, like thank god for kenji he made it tolerable.

This novella for me is a revelation. It’s also a foreshadowing. It surprises me both in good and sad way. I’m very much vocal of my adoration towards Warner but I don’t have that much hate on Adam. I liked him just fine. The reason why I don’t prefer him is that he’s sort of bland. He doesn’t have much character and something’s telling me that he wasn’t the right guy for Juliette. Then Destroy Me and Unravel Me came that showed things that support my theory. But Fracture Me, ironically, which was told from Adam’s POV cemented it even more. I never would have guessed how fragile his feelings for Juliette were. I can’t even compare it to how he feels for James. Because if there’s only one person he needs to save, and between his little brother and woman she claimed he loved, I’m pretty sure, he—without a doubt—will save James. Don’t get me wrong, I admired his love for his brother but it just shows that she’s not his priority. He can even abandon her safety as long as the welfare of his brother is secured.

(I think Adam earned some positive merit from me. He loves his brother and they have each other longer than he had Juliette. Of course, it is understandable that he wants his only family safety first. That doesn’t make his love for Juliette any less than what he really had for her. That’s actually the real question here: how much did he love her from the very start?)

He doesn’t have a real inkling on what’s going on her mind. He doesn’t completely understand her and that’s why I think before that their relationship wouldn’t work. But what make it so unbearably sad is what Adam really thought of her—a weakling. I don’t entirely think of his words as insult (although it does sound kinda like it) but to describe a person in such negative context made me question his already questionable intentions. What he thought of her is the EXACT opposite of what Warner thinks of Juliette. He always pushes her forward, to embrace her potential, to make her understand that she is indeed strong. Whereas Adam wanted to baby Juliette, he even thinks that she’s going to weigh them down. I didn’t expect him to feel that way for Juliette, but it is without a shadow of doubt, true.

In fact, I even saw more sincerity on Kenji. He was the one who was hell-bent on saving Juliette. He even blamed himself to what has happened. He’s the one reminding Adam that he should be worried, but no, he wanted to seize the momentarily peace they have and not stifle James safety unnecessarily. Now, tell me why should Juliette end up with Adam? Because I don’t see a single thing that will save his face with this revelation. Not even with the things he did in the first two books.

It’s foreshadowing, that I can tell you. I don’t even need an image of Warner kissing Juliette (although will greatly appreciate) shoved to my face to know that they will be the end game. This novella pretty much solidified that. I have so much to say about their relationship but I’m saving it on my manifesto I’m writing for them (for my Project Sixty-Two entry). But this novella definitely gave me the assurance I need.

The story was bit shorter. It did bridge the gap between book 2 and 3. It wasn’t as personal as Destroy Me, and the one significant thing I learned from Adam is that he loves his brother so much. But also we got to know how things had happened prior to the opening chapter of Ignite Me. And by the looks of it, it promises amazing things to come. Yes, Juliette, remove those gloves, and go all out. I’m ending this review with my favorite quote from Ignite Me:

If there were even the slightest chance I could spare you this pain,” he finally says, “I would’ve taken it. You must know I wouldn’t have said it if it weren’t absolutely true.” — Warner

I’m so, so ready. I’m impatiently waiting here, and I have the feeling the wait will definitely pay off.

4.5/5

Post-Reading Comment:

Let me clarify my rating first.

This doesn’t have anything to do with Adam. And from the looks of it, it just cemented the reason why Warner and Juliette should be together. Actually, it solidify the end game here. Their understanding of the girl is contrasting, like night and day. It also showed who Adam main priority is; in a way told us who the most important person in his life is. And it ain't Juliette (not even himself). I was really surprised on how things went down in here. I didn’t expect Adam to be this callous and violent than necessary, or from what I know of him.

I have tons to say but let me process all these thoughts in my head properly(it's wee hours of the night here). Adam gave me something to think about. Expect a lengthy review later.

****

See, I care for you Adam. I even changed the title, added the synopsis of your novella, and I even uploaded the cover. (11/03) Why so broken Adam? ;)

****
Adam fans, this one's for all of you! ;) I'll still be reading you though. Don't worry. ;)

Is it too much to ask for another Warner Novella? Is it? *bribes mafi with cakes & cookies*

UPDATE: SAY IT ISN'T SO! Adam's perspective? Really? Why in the world would you give Adam his own novella when you have WARNER (Warner!) whom you could write about. I mean, it's WARNER! Such a complex, tortured anti-hero. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Even Kenji would have been better than Adam.

UPDATE NOW THAT I'VE READ IT: I don't know how you could want Juliette to end up with Adam after reading this. Just as Destroy Me showed me who Warner really is, Fracture Me has revealed the true Adam, and it isn't pretty. He doesn't even really love her, at least not like Warner does, and Adam has zero chemistry with Juliette. Here's to hoping Tahereh Mafi wrote it this way to pave the way for Warner+Juliette!

Original:
PLEASE, PLEASE be from Warner's POV.

You know, you could include some Warner flashbacks to Chapter 62, too... I wouldn't complain or anything. =)

ㅤㅤ “Juliette is dead because of me.”

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ━ 2.0 - 2.1 ☆ ━ (????)
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ⊱ ──── might contain spoilers ────⊰

ㅤㅤOh Lord please take all of Adam's pain from this book, double it, and give it right back to him. 🙏🏻

ㅤㅤI am not writing any long review for this book (or any review at all), because

it would be considered a hate speech, not a review. This man easily rivals Tamlin in the 'You are a woman so all you have to do is look pretty and wait for me to be your hero' competition. After this book I am more convinced than ever that Juliette regretted her decision a bit when she finally met other men at Omega Point and learned she'd drawn the short stick. His only redemption is his really genuine love for his brother, and I am sure I would have liked Adam more if everything about him revolved around this brotherly relationship, but I cannot guarantee this would save him from Hell. I'd like to apologies to Gale for always comparing him to Adam, but he's not much better, so they can both bond over their stupidity anyway.
ㅤㅤNo wonder Juliette falls for Warner when he is clearly the more interesting brother. Damn, even James would be a better choice at this point and he is only 10.

ㅤㅤThe only thing I enjoyed from this book was that we got to see a bit of the other characters and what was actually going on with them during the events from the ending of "Unravel me". And I'd want to thank the writer for putting Kenji here as well and using him to save this book from being a complete breakdown for me. I am not giving this 1 star simply because it was, fortunately, too short and I mainly reserve 1 star ratings for books I either DNF, or completely mentally scar me.

ㅤㅤ──────────── ༻✧༺ ────────────

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ.˚౿ Pre-reading ࿐ ࿔*:・

ㅤㅤDo I want to read an entire book in

Gale's Adam's POV? No. Might I slightly care about how his story will progress, therefore this is why I read this book? Also no.
ㅤㅤI just want to get over it, because I took this masoch*stic challenge of finishing this series without skipping any single book/novella, so let's go. 😅

(0.0/5 bECAUSE THERE ISN'T A SINGLE f*ckING REDEEMING QUALITY IN THIS NOVELLA)

Buddy read with Layla! Go check out her review!

RANT ALERT ⚠️ RANT ALERT ⚠️ RANT ALERT

me starting this: "I WILL NOT LOSE HER" pfffft dream on 🙄

me finishing this:
Fracture Me (Shatter Me, #2.5) (22)

Adam, Adam, Adam.

*disappointed (but not surprised) sigh

like my parents after grades come out*

I went into this novella expecting to hate it, and I did. But I didn't think I'd end up hating Adam as much as I do now.

Fracture Me (Shatter Me, #2.5) (23)

I mean, sure, we all know he's a complete simp. He's constantly making moony-eyes at Juliette (who, to be fair, makes them right back), and repeatedly begs her to take him back in the second book. But what I didn't expect was something that I learned from his inner thoughts: he's a complete and utter sh*t. An artless boot-licker. And annoying af.

Fracture Me (Shatter Me, #2.5) (24)

Don't worry, I'm not going to bore you (or your braincells) to death with quotes from the book, because I don't think I can open this book again without getting angry. Well, more angry than I already am.

(Unmarked spoilers ahead.)

Why, you ask? Well, consider first the fact that this novella shows the last ten percent of Unravel Me from Adam's perspective. Or, the morning of the "attack". He's discovered that Warner has escaped, and notices that Juliette is acting weird, which he attributes to Kenji being in the hospital for. Kenji comes back, Juliette hugs him, we know the drill. However, this novella reveals that here, Adam acknowledges that being with Juliette would be potentially deadly, bUT HE STILL SIMPS AFTER HER??

And regarding the simping: um, what the hell? Juliette broke up with you, and you need to get that through your thick skull and GoRgEoUs BrOwN lOcKs

if there even is a brain underneath. You need to get over her and get over yourself. SHE BROKE UP WITH YOU. You have to let her go so she can get the therapy she so desperately needs Warner. You don't OwE her anything. You aren't iN cHaRgE of her well-being, because, nEWS FLASH, SHE CAN PROTECT HERSELF. If anyone, you should worry about yourself, dude. Actually, you know what, don't. That way, while you're off making moony-eyes at Juliette on the battlefield, you'll be killed and everyone's misery will finally end.

Anyhow, later, as they go on with the attack, it very quickly becomes very clear that Adam doesn't think Juliette should be there. His mAnLy and PrOtEcTiVe instincts tell him that since she's never experienced war, sHe WoN't Be AbLe To HaNdLe It. At one point, he even refers to her as the WeAk LiNk in the team, despite her ability to literally crush things or torture people using her hands.

Fracture Me (Shatter Me, #2.5) (25)

Rant-y, spoiler-y parts are over now.

Anyway.

Fracture Me (Shatter Me, #2.5) (26)

I'm sure all of you have been educated after reading about me screaming over 72 pages of nonsense and pure hell, and now know to stay the fork away from this series. Seriously. If I see someone reading this series "for the lolz" or because my anger towards this served as some sort of grotesque catayst to you "wanting to read it to experience the torture for yourselves", I will come after you in the comments. Or pray for your swift recovery if the damage is too great.

Main takeaway from this review? This book is

Negative all the stars

I hate Adam with all my heart.
This is not a usual review. This is just a rant. None of my (sort of new) structure that I use. Just me ranting about Adam.

First off: Adam is so misoginistic and sexist. In case you haven't noticed, Juliette is a strong individual. You don't own her. Stop. You don't own her, or know what's best for her. Don't act like it. She's not a piece of property. It pisses me off that he likes her only because she's quiet and submissive. The moment she grows as a person, he's awful. Though, he was already awful.

Secondly: If you love her so much, why do you act like complete sh*t?
I'm sorry, that was mean.
sh*t doesn't deserve to be compared to this "person."
Juliette has such good character development, and finds someone who makes her happy.

And for some reason, Adam, who "loves her," can't deal with that.

Why? Because he owns her, of course! Because women are pieces of property, ment to be seen and not heard.
Greeeaaatttt character you got there.

He's such a hypocrite. He withholds things from her, abuses her, and expects her to love him?
Please explain to me how this works.

Spoilers: It doesn't. It really doesn't

Adam is sh*t, and if you like him, please come talk to me, because you obviously need help.
Also, why would you like a sexist, hypocritical, sh*tty human being, even if you are a little messed up in the head?

😷😵😱

A wise person one said:

"If the dude was hanging off a cliff, and the fate of the world rested on his shoulders, I'd help him up

Then shoot him.

Hint, hint: It was me.
I would take so much pleasure in knowing he was dead. In the third book, when Juliette and crew was leaving, I cried because I thought we'd never see James again, and because we're leaving him with Adam.

Also: He treats James like sh*t. Dude. Stop. James is amazing. I love him.

He makes Juliette feel guilty for leaving a toxic relationship and find herself. If this ever happens, leave them immediately. If they grab you, hit them with the nearest thing you can find and call the cops. Hell, call me. Because this person is awful.
Adam is so freaking toxic. He deserves to die alone.
Can we have a petition to make that happen??? Please??

There is not a word to describe how much I hate Adam. He's just a bad person in general.

I'm not gonna feel bad for you buddy. Try as you might, the fandom hates you. I personally, will always hate you.

I'm going to do much worse then just "Fracture" you, Kent. I'm going to freaking demolish you, throwing you off the face of the earth and into the sun. And then I'd celebrate with no shame or guilt. Only pure joy.

"But Linley," you might be saying. "Aren't you being a bit harsh? "
No, I am not. He's abusive, toxic and plain awful. My greeting to him would be either:

A: Flipping him off
B: A punch to the face
C: Knife to the back
Or
D: All three in that order.

We do not stan Adam Kent in this household. He puts Gale Hawthorne out of a job. Jacob Black takes notes. Clancy prays to him for new idea's on how to torture Ruby and crew. I cannot say this enough, how bad Adam is.

If I could have negative stars, I would give all of them to this book. I like the series, but Adam can die and I'd throw a party.

With Hate,

Lin.

Fracture Me (Shatter Me #2.5), Tahereh Mafi

In this electrifying sixty-page companion novella to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, discover the fate of the Omega Point rebels as they go up against The Reestablishment. Set during and soon after the final moments of Unravel Me, Fracture Me is told from Adam's perspective.

"Juliette will not stand alone. In a battle that will decide the fate of her world. In Destroy me, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45, refuses to let her go. In Fracture me, Adam, Juliette's first love, will do anything to get her back." Publisher's description.

Yeah, this was boring. I've not got much else to say really. I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it but mainly read it for the details. It gave us a bit of an insight into Adam but it was no think like Warner's because it just confirmed everything we already knew.

Feb 2013 - I really, really, really want this to be Kenji's story or Warner again but I'm pretty sure it's going to be Adam :( I don't dislike Adam, I just find him a little boring!

Edit 24/08/2013 - It's going to be in Adam's POV :( such is life but I guess it must be done! Makes sense really.

Weird how things can change in very short periods of time! At the beginning of this series, there were Adam and Juliette, and I couldn’t imagine anything else. Then came Destroy Me, Warner’s novella that showed a whole new side of him, and (to my own surprise) I started thinking he might be a better choice for her after all. But my heart was breaking for poor Adam. I saw him as a nice and honest – if somewhat plain – boy, not strong enough and certainly not insightful enough to fully understand someone as messed up as Juliette.

However, just like the previous novella, Fracture Me made me completely change my mind. In only 62 pages, Adam has managed to convince me that he’s so very wrong for her, and what’s more, that he doesn’t even really love her. Regardless of my past feelings for him, which was lukewarm at best, I didn’t expect to see this level of anger, jealously, and most of all, weakness.

The thing that troubles me most about Adam, his own doubts and reservations aside, is that he sees Juliette as someone in need of protecting, someone incapable of defending herself. Their relationship, as good as it might have seemed in the past, would never be a relationship of equals, never a true partnership. With Adam’s attitude, Juliette would never be free to grow to her full potential, she would always be kept back and sheltered. Unlike Warner, who keeps pushing her to be her best, even through nefarious means, Adam would wrap her in cotton and convince her she needs him – a big, strong soldier – to fight her battles.

Tahereh Mafi still does a wondrous job of adapting her writing to her POV character. It’s one of her greatest talents, I think, this ability to use writing as yet another tool for characterization. Adam’s narration is much like Adam himself – plain and a bit dry, with nothing distinctive about it.

Compared to Warner’s novella, Fracture Me is almost painfully short, but it contributes a lot to the series and sheds a very different light on Adam. I’m not sure how many fans he’ll have after this. If he ends up with Juliette after all, I for one I’m going to be very disappointed.

My three stars in no way reflect Tahereh’s writing and storytelling, which are brilliant. It’s more about the bitter disappointment this novella left me with, and it’s definitely a result of my strong dislike of Adam. I know I’ll be a sobbing mess after Ignite Me, though. Whichever way this goes, it can’t end well for everyone involved. Perhaps we should be smart about it and start a support group while there’s still time?
The clock is ticking, my friends. The heartbreak is almost here.
