HGTV's "My Lottery Dream Home" & host David Bromstad (2024)

Will someone/anyone please explain to me what the incentive is for a Lottery winner to appear on a show like this?

For those who aren't familiar, designer David Bromstad travels America and "helps" recent lottery winners find their "dream home". He accomplishes this by simply going to a local real estate agent and having them suggest 3 homes. [For the record, some of the homes are nice, but the majority are almost never anything luxurious and what the average person would expect a well-to-do family/individual to live in]. After the lottery winner picks one of the 3 homes presented to them, they usually gush and choke back tears explaining that "[they] couldn't have done it without David!" LOL.

My question is, what the f*ck did David do for these people? He sashays into the offices of local real estate agents and takes suggestions. Any idiot could do for his or her self! Hell, nowadays you don't even need to go see an agent, you can look online. So what is the incentive for a recent lottery winner to appear on this show? Is HGTV (or this show's production company) paying a ton of money for them to appear? Why would they want the attention?

And speaking of David Bromstad, who's had the bitch? Power bottom? An insatiable taste for huge co*cks? What's her story?

They get to be on teeV. He's cute, gracious with the winners who are kinda trashy folk. But it is a boring show. I liked the color show he did better.

He's cute until he opens his mouth or moves. I want to see him with a big black co*ck up his butt and another one stuffed in his mouth so he can't say anything.

I cant understand how he has ruined his looks by all those horrible tattoos. I get the whole, personal ones; the ones for you, behind your clothes. But the garish, random blackwork all over him and on his hands...

He’s like a train wreck. I can’t stop watching. The most baffling thing is his ethnicity. He is allegedly 100% Caucasian, which is impossible to believe.

Serious mental health issues. No one who makes themselves into a sketchbook to that extent is sane. He's f*cked in the head.

And this show is partially fake, too. Internet sleuths say the lotto winners must be already under contract for a house before the show starts filming - and might even look at homes that aren't actually for sale on the show. This is a similar set up that's been exposed for all the home buying shows on HGTV like "House Hunters."

As far as the host; David started out as the winner of HGTV's first season of "Design Star" in 06. He was VERY cute (I still think he's cute btw, yes, even with the pearl clutching tattoos)

He got a show or two and lots of appearances on HGTV out of the win. He was popular and became an HGTV "personality" so they threw him at the Lottery show for whatever reason.

He looks like he should he doing p*rn for Raw f*ck Club.

It’s a show that is more about the lottery winners than the house (which is inevitably a McMansion in a new sub division).

The short answer to your question: It's all bullsh*t, like every other "reality" show.

I had such a crush on him during the season he won Design Star, but I find him quite gross now.

He's a hot mess now, but he isn't aging well. He'll be a run-of-the mill, over-the-hill mess by the time he's 50.

On the show where prospective owners pick the best of three houses, before it's filmed they bought their favorite.

The show has gone from season one participants with a million plus dollars to spend to people who have won 250K on a scratcher. I saw one episode where the winner was looking at houses in the $150k range. Who wants to look at poor people homes on a lottery dream home show?

I like that the houses are usually pretty normal -- it's interesting to see what $175K or whatever will get you in different cities. What can I say, I'm a normie -- everything doesn't have to be the NYT real estate section. I do wish David would calm down a bit more

It’s easy to determine the season in which each episode originally aired by whether or not the tattoos have reached his thighs and neck.

I caught a bit of one episode where he helped people in a rural town outside of Pittsburgh.

Calling them trash would have been kind, and one of the daughters was slow or something. It was excruciating to watch even a second.

I'm surprised that David -- with his flamboyant clothes and hideous tattoos -- hasn't been attacked by the locals in some of the redneck, flyover towns he visits for the show. (On second thought, maybe the tattoos help him fit in.) David is always upbeat and full of energy, but I wonder if that's to mask the pain and frustration inside. ("I have to spend a week in Dubuque showing sh*tty, cookie-cutter homes to a white-trash couple???!! What the hell did I do to deserve this? Goddamn it, HGTV! Give me a show where I can design!")

And the poor real estate agents don't get any of the credit. The lottery winners praise David for "finding" them such good homes and ignore the real estate agent who actually "found" the homes.

If it's a home that needs some work, the lottery winners always joke, "David, maybe we can invite you back to help us design and decorate!" You know that David is thinking, "Hell no! I'm never returning to this sh*thole town!"

Someone should do a companion show with the next door neighbors called, "The Hillbillies Just Moved into the Neighborhood."

Yeah, some of it is bull sh*t. .. There was that one guy who won the lottery and had already bought and moved into his new home months before David took him on a made-up search with him. Supposedly, they get people contacting them now, but the producer admitted that during the first year of production, they contacted 1000 lottery winners before they got 10 to agree to do the show.
