BURR 80, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (April 16, 1993) at Westminster Shores Health Center. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and was an author and teacher. He graduated from Amherst College with honors in history and worked on his doctorate in Egyptology at the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute. In 1962 he was appointed a professor of history at Florida Presbyterian College, now Eckerd College.

He wrote poems, including The King Who Cast No Shadow, an epic poem about King Arthur, and after he retired in 1978 from Eckerd he wrote several other books of poetry, including No Chance Encounter. Other books were The Empire of the Inca, Lords of Cuzco and A Rain of Darts.
